Bring to Light Review

Writer's picture: Collyn BoonCollyn Boon

Bring to Light is developed and published by Red Meat Games and was released on May 24, 2019 for $25.99 CND on Xbox and July 13, 2018 on Steam for $22.79. A copy of Bring to Light was given to XenAndCL for review purposes. This review has no bearing on my final thought about the game.

HELLO!!! This is the HoneyBadger8278 back again with another review for @XenAndCL. Today, they asked me to review the game Bring to Light by Red Meat Games, based in both Ontario and Nova Scotia. This is a Canadian game and it’s been my pleasure to play this both from a reviewer’s point of view and a recreational player point of view. But, without further ado, let’s get down to business.

Bring to Light could be classified as a survival horror game. The main point is to … of course … SURVIVE!! You’ll need your wits, your daring, and no small amount of luck to beat this game. But there’s a problem … you run out of luck as soon as the game starts.

Your character just survived a train crash. I’ll repeat that … YOU. SURVIVED. A. TRAIN. CRASH!!! Right away, any and all luck you had has been used up. Now, you are trapped in the subway and need to find a way out. Simple, right? Sorry. Nope. You have to make your way down through the subway and its complete interior to find your way out. Thankfully … you have your trusty cell phone.

I want to know who made this cell phone. IT DOESN’T DIE!!! Doesn’t provide much light but it is good for a start. You will eventually come across a flashlight which throws more light. It will also come in handy for one other thing. But we’ll get to that.

At some point, you will have to find 5 or 6 fuses to restore some power. Easy, right? Sorry. Not really. Why? Because of all of the FREAKY SPIDER-ANKLE BITERS (my name for them) that you have to try to get by!! But do not worry you already have a weapon! That’s right … THE FLASHLIGHT! These things HATE the light. If you can keep the light on these things long enough … POOF ... Flambé.

I am not going to tell you much more of what is coming. That would spoil the game for you. However … here is one last spoiler for you … BIG BEN (again, my name for him.) This is a monster stalks around and … I have never been able to kill him. But he can kill you. In ONE HIT! Watch out for Big Ben! He is not the friendly kind.

Back to business; I loved how the entire “world” was rendered in this game. I found no glitching, stuttering, or blank spots. I played mostly with a headset so the sound was amazing to me.

Red Meat Games allowed me to experience something that I have not had in a while … a chance to be actually spooked when playing a game. THANK YOU RED MEAT GAMES!!
